GreatEyeglasses.com is yet another deal site for glasses.

With most of these websites you can even upload your own photograph to see what the frames will look like on. All you need is an updates prescript and the PD measurement which is the distance between pupils. If you do not have this listed on your prescription you may be able to carefully measure it yourself or ask your eye doctor.

Mother's Day Gifts for All Wallet Sizes

If you are in a rush to find the perfect gift for your mom this Sunday then please keeping reading. Finals may have hampered your efforts until now, but with at least a few days left it's time to refocus. According to a survey some 91% of mothers would prefer to receive a iPad instead of flowers this year, however, for most students that is a bit out of the question. Yet with Savvy Student on your side, we have you covered with ideas that appeal to all budgets.

The traditional Mother's Day gift is flowers, but if you want to be more creative here are some suggestions Savvy Student found for you on the web.

1. Print a photo canvas of you and your Mom, or of any other picture she likes. If a canvas is too much, how about a photo mug? A personalized wall calendar? Look online for coupons and discounts (Retailmenot) on shipping. Snapfish  and Shutterfly have a whole list of items for under $10!

2. If you are still considering flowers, how about choosing a more edible flower arrangement. Check out Edible Arrangements for a wide array of fruit baskets and fruit bouquets. It's a more delicious gift for your mom and a much more unique type of arrangement. Though some of the arrangements are a bit pricy, there are some creative and cheap arrangements if you're willing to look around!

3. Make your mother a gift basket filled with her favorite things! Some of your mother's favorite chocolates, lotions, candles, or any other special little gifts can make for a relatively cheap Mother's Day gift that is bursting with originality, creativity, and love!

4. Make something for your mother! You can paint aprons, T-shirts, or tote bags—visit your local arts-and-crafts store for materials. If you don't feel like making any arts and crafts, bake something! Your mother will always appreciate something tasty!

5. Make a special journal! Write something on the pages of the journal to remind your mom of how much she means to you. Include photos, mementos, and snippets from special moments that you have shared together!

6. Get your mom a gift card for a spa treatment, a manicure, a pedicure, or any other relaxing, rejuvenating activities that she would appreciate! It's her one day of the year to relax. Make it a truly refreshing day!

7. The best gift seems to be the least obvious gift as well. Say "thank you" to your mother. If you won't be spending the day with her, give her a phone call! Show her that you appreciate her. A little gesture can go a very long way.

The best Mother's Day gifts come from the heart! You can be both creative and financially responsible! Best of luck with shopping and creating!

Happy Mother's Day!

Student Loan Interest Rates

In talking about student loan debt, we can not ignore the fact that under current Federal law beginning on July 1, 2012 the interest rate for all Subsidized Stafford loans will increase from 3.4% fixed to 6.8% fixed. And, the grace period for this loan will no longer be interest free. Interest for the Subsidized Stafford loan will begin accruing from the date of departure. Students will still be given a 6 month grace period before payment arrangements are required, but the interest free terms have changed to interest baring.

As we all know, this change is significant and will impact the lives of many students. In an effort to help motivate Congress from implementing such a drastic change, we would like to share information from COE, Council for Opportunity in Education which has been serving TRIO students for more than 30 years.

COE had reached out to several schools promoting their partner, Campus Project and the Common Purpose Project  to provide a forum for students to share their stories and provide feedback on the increase. Several progressive coalitions are doing the same student outreach.  Those wanting to assist may discuss three main points which are as follows:

  • Why is a college education important to you?

  • What impact does student debt have on you?
  • How would your life change if the burden of debt was lifted?

  •
To view an interactive description of the interest rate change you may visit:

Student Debt - Don't Let It Bring You Down

You might feel like you are the only one who will enter the "real world" with thousands of $$ in student loan debt, but that's not actually the case. According to NPR, "Two-thirds of college students now graduate with debt, owing an average of $24,000." Moreover, the overall nation's debt is climbing toward $1 trillion. So, once you start with your repayments it might feel like a lot to you, but in comparison to these numbers it is just a small part.
Somewhat unexpectedly, low-cost schools have students graduating with larger debt than more expensive institutions which often have bigger endowments and can afford to support their students with higher financial aid.
Mark Kantrowitz, publsiher for fastweb.com and FinAid.org, reports that it will take most students as long as 20 years to repay their loans. Contrary to these somewhat discouraging statistics,  Times Magazine reports that attending college is the best way to learn how to manage personal finances. When educators in Europe are struggling to come up with ways of teaching personal finance management, American students can just go to college for four years!

So, to the Class of 2012, Congratulations and don't worry, it will all work out!!!!!!!!!
