Give My Regards to Boston, Remember Me to Harvard Square

New York City may be the most popular and renowned city for live theater in the country, but Boston has it's fair share of extraordinary, high-quality, and affordable theaters that are just waiting to be discovered! There are a number of professional theaters in the area that boast both original works and well-known plays and musicals.

  • American Repertory Theater - The A.R.T. is a renowned theater in Boston that has produced many productions that often end up on Broadway. The A.R.T.'s recent production of Pippin transferred to Broadway just a few months ago and has received critical acclaim and a plethora of Tony Award nominations.
    • Student Rush tickets are $15 (cash only) when available. The tickets are available by phone or in person at the box office. There is a limit of one ticket per performance per ID. Be sure to bring your student ID!
  • Huntington Theatre Company - This company brings to life well-known and original works on a professional scale. Currently, Huntington is doing a new work called Rapture, Blister, Burn.
    • There are $15 (cash only) Student Rush tickets available for Rapture, Blister, Burn. If you are interested, act quickly! Rapture, Blister, Burn closes on June 30th! Be sure to bring your student ID!
  • Speakeasy Stage Company - This company mounts professional productions of shows that have recently closed on Broadway. Currently, Speakeasy is doing a critically acclaimed production of the smash-hit musical In the Heights.
    • There are $14 (cash only) Student Rush tickets available for In the Heights. All you need to do is show up one hour before the beginning of the show and you can get your tickets! If you are interested, act quickly: In the Heights closes on June 30th! Be sure to bring your student ID!
  • Lyric Stage Company - This company produces productions of varying genres and styles and offers a great number of deals to accommodate all audience types.
    • Student Rush tickets are $10 (cash only) and are subject to availability. They are sold starting 30 minutes before the beginning of each performance. Be sure to bring your student ID!
  • Charles Playhouse - This theater is home to two Boston productions that are staples of the Boston theater scene: Blue Man Group and Shear Madness.
    • Blue Man Group "combines music, comedy, and multimedia theatrics to create a totally unique form of entertainment."
    • Shear Madness is "one of the most popular entertainments in the world, delighting audiences night after night with its unique blend of madcap improvisation and spine-tickling mystery."
  • National Tours - Many famous Broadway musicals having touring productions that come through the Boston area. Recently, shows as popular as Jersey Boys, The Book of Mormon, and Wicked have come to Boston. Here is the next upcoming National Tour in the Boston area for the summer...
    • Wicked - This National Tour of this smash-hit Broadway musical is coming to the Boston Opera House from August 7, 2013 to September 15, 2013. Tickets may be expensive, but it is an option for those interested in seeing this famous production while it is in the area.
